Half Moon Island, Antarctica

One of the best things about Antarctica is how diverse it was. Every single day was so unique. Our last day on Antarctica did not disappoint. It had the coolest black rock beach, with a new type of penguin. Up until now we had only seen Gentoo Penguins and Adelie Penguins, but today we saw Chinstrap Penguins.

The location itself was the least scenic so far, but the beach was really cool so it made up for it.

And...we finally got to see lots of seals in one place!

One of the cool things was the seals would get up on all fours and crawl across the beach. The other seals I've seen in other countries would just get up on their front fins and drag their bodies. It was interesting seeing how different these seals were. They were also by far the biggest seals I've seen!

The beach was covered in shiny black pebbles, and then had huge chunks of ice scattered across the beach. It created some great contrast with the black rocks, white ice blocks, and the Chinstrap Penguins.

The penguins were constantly swimming through the water, jumping up on to the beach, and then walking up and over to the other side of the island. It was interesting watching more and more penguins do that through out the day. Their were so many of them!

We were supposed to make a stop earlier in the day and it got too windy, so it was nice having lots of time at this stop and not feeling rushed. Everyone was really enjoying themselves.

The penguins had a consistent path they took as they went up and over the island. I went and sat in the middle of their path and waited for them to pass. This ended up being one of my favorite pictures of the trip! So many of them were trekking past me! I love watching them waddle around.

We weren't actually in Antarctica for that long, but we were able to see so much in such a short period of time!

Traci and I did not want to get on the zodiac for the last time. We were the last people of the beach and tried to get as much time on Antarctica as we could! It was sad to say goodbye!

I got home from Antarctica a year ago today so I thought it was time to finally finish blogging about the trip! I wish I had finished a long time ago, but I'm done! You will no longer have to hear me ramble on about a trip that happened forever ago! Wahooo!

Really though, it was the coolest place I have ever been. I loved every second I was on land (and hated almost every second we were sailing). If you get the chance, you better go to Antarctica!
